No new appointment yet as BIEK's chairman
Karachi, June 16(The News): The contract of the Chairman Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) Prof
Iftikhar Hussain Zaidi ended on Friday, June 15, while no new chairman has been
appointed to the post nor his (Zaidi's) term has been extended owing to the
'pressing' schedule of the controlling authority, Governor of Sindh, Dr Ishratul
Ebad.
A official disclosed that the Panel of Chairmen have, however,
nominated three names for the said post including former Senator Saeed Siddiqui,
Anwar Ahmed Zai, Chairman of Mirpurkhas Board, and Sultan Abbas, Chairman of
Hyderabad Board.
The sources said that the new appointment to this
effect will take place after the Sindh Governor returns from Islamabad.
However, some quarters said that Zaidi has submitted a request
to the Governor seeking further extension of the contract to two years, but a
decision to this effect is yet to be taken.
Zaidi, who earlier retired
as Director Colleges and had his contract as Chairman of the BIEK renewed twice,
joined the BIEK in 2003 on a contract basis of three years. His contract earlier
expired in December 2006. However, it was renewed for another six months up to
June 15.
Sources at the Governor House confided that the proposal for
renewal of the contract of Zaidi had been submitted and the decision to this
effect would be taken by the controlling authority (Governor).
