Dow University starts dental college
Karachi, June 13(The News): The Dow University of Heath Sciences (DUHS) has started dental college at Dr
Ishratul Ebad Institute of Oral Health Sciences on Tuesday.
The
Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof Masood Hameed Khan, welcomed the newly
admitted BDS students and briefed the audience about the developments of DUHS
since its inception, three years back.
He mentioned that the necessity of
dental college in the public sector had long been felt. He said keeping the same
in view, the foundation stone of Dr Ishratul Ebad Institute of Oral Health
Sciences was laid three years ago in the Sindh Medical College and today this
dream had come true.
He said here highly educated teaching faculty was
always available for guidance to students while in future Masters, M.Phil and
Ph.D Programmes would also be started.
Prof Khan mentioned the
International Medical College in which the classes had started from last Monday
and said that M.Phil programme would be started in few months and research
laboratory will start functioning by early July this year.
He said it
would also provide services to patients besides the research work of the faculty
members.
He said the building
where this new institute has been lodged was constructed in 1865 and was in such deplorable condition
that demolishing charges of Rs40,000 were agreed with the contractor just before
the establishment of the university.
But he decided that it remain a
national heritage structure and had it renovated for the dental
college.
The principal of Sindh Medical College, Prof Tariq
Sharafatullah, highlighted the facilities of digital library and the science
laboratories equipped with modern technology.
