IIUI students protest 100% increase in tuition fee

ISLAMABAD, June 6(Daily Times): Over 300 students of Management Sciences Department of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) staged a protest demonstration on Tuesday at the old campus of the university against the decision to increase the tuition fee by 100 percent. The fee has been increased from Rs 45,000 to Rs 90,000 per semester. The students termed this raise, only by the Department of Management Sciences, unjust and illogical.

The protesting students closed the gates of IIUI's Administration Block and prevented the staff from entering the block while their talks with the IIUI president were underway. The students chanted slogans against the administration for neglecting their interests. They alleged that the management had taken the decision just to fill its coffers. They held Prof Ammanullah Toor responsible for the raise in tuition fee.

The students said it was not fair to increase the fee at a time when the classes were on. They also said that the latest decision of the management regarding the required attendance would prevent many students from appearing in the exams. A heavy contingent of police was present during the students protest.

Your Comments
"Its due to Govts wrong policies that universities should raise their funds themselves. its cruel. what theyll do is only to raise fee. i cant understand those authorities sitting in universities who has gone through these stages n well know themselves that how one parent arrange fee for his children.they all studied in universities when there was no self finance. how they forgot their past. they now just know how to get max. salary and nothing else. their qualifications are not satisfactory. students should not pay fee and remain united for the cause. protest is their right and they should do it in front of paliament too."
