Islamia College Complex privatization attempt flayed
KARACHI, June 11(Daily Times): The Sindh Professors' and Lecturers' Association (SPLA)
flayed an alleged attempt by certain education department officials to privatize
Islamia College Complex (ICC) Karachi. ICC has 4 colleges, 3 schools, & over
12,000 students.
In a meeting Sunday, SPLA members claimed that a court
decision was backing the privatisation decision. They quoted a 1973 constitution
that protects nationalized colleges and schools. Moreover, a constitutional
amendment of 1985 envisaged that educational institutions established by
communities and missionaries could be handed back to them if they prove
ownership. The Muslim Education Society does not exist, however, nor does the
amended article apply to it, the SPLA contended.
