Karachi University registrar awarded
June, 8(The News): Prof. Rais Alvi, the Registrar of the University of Karachi has been awarded
'Hindi-Urdu Sahitya Committee Award' at Lucknow in Uttar Pardesh, for his
excellence in Urdu Literature. Alvi received the prestigious literary award in a
function on May 27 that was attended by intellectuals, writers and poets of
India.
Alvi has translated the oldest recorded Japanese Poetry in Urdu and has
done comprehensive work on symbolism in Urdu Ghazal. He also boasts a
biographical and poetical collection on 10 major Urdu poets. The poets include
Wali, Sauda, Dard, Mir, Aatish, Ghalib and Hasrat. Famous journalist and writer
Reiko Umme Moto translated his work into Japanese.
