NUST projects to boost research culture
ISLAMABAD, June 4 (The Nation): National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) has been undertaking a
number of projects in collaboration with world renowned research universities to
provide a solid base for technology oriented market in the country. Among
them are the establishment of new campus, which is being constructed at a cost
of Rs4 billion in H-12 and further enhancement of Technology Incubation Center
(TIC), said Director General NUST Air Commodore (r) Engineer Mansoor Malik here
Sunday.
He said the new campus will facilitate close interaction with
high-tech industries to meet country's requirements. "Under one umbrella
project it will have 12 NUST institutes while a floor space for more than
seventy high-tech start-up-companies," he added.
DG NUST informed that a sum
of $55 million for manufacturing different parts of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle
(UMV) in collaboration with US leading university was being arranged.
NUST
TIP is in the process of commercializing Hybrid Solar Dryer to introduce an
effective and inexpensive method of drying fruits and vegetables, he
added.
He said the first prototype of Hybrid Solar Dryer is ready for this
purpose.
NUST is also actively involved in Technology Incubation Center
products, air conditioning tile, state-of-the-art web enabled control systems
applications, business intelligence tools, renewable energy products, bio and
nano technology products, compliance managements system and engineering services
and other joint ventures with different partners, he said.
Currently, NUST
has more than 5,000 students and about 600 faculty members in 22 institutes, he
added. He said NUST has students' and faculty members' exchange programmes
with 55 foreign reputed universities under split programmes.
