PU vacation schedule changed to foil IJT book fair?

LAHORE, June 4(Daily Times): The Punjab University (PU) administration has changed the summer vacation schedule to foil a book fair of the Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) to be held on June 8 and restrict PU teachers and students to take part in the rallies being held in the support of the chief justice of Pakistan (CJP), Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, sources in the PU administration said on Saturday. On Friday, the PU administration issued a notification saying that the varsity would remain closed from June 4 to July 30.

Sources said that the PU administration had cancelled its previous notification according to which it would remain closed from June 18 to July 30. A large number of PU teachers and students had taken part in rallies held in Lahore in the favour of the CJP. The IJT had announced that it would hold a book fair at the PU new campus on June 8. A senior PU professor, seeking anonymity, said the PU administration had asked the boarding students to vacate the hostels before 4 June. The PUASA had also criticised the PU authorities for changing the summer vacation schedule. PUASA executive body at a meeting on Friday observed that change in the vacation plan had caused problems for boarding students. PU registrar Prof Dr Naeem Khan said that the summer vacation plan had been changed due to hot weather.

"The PU is home to IJT and all the administration is involved with them on the inside and stages dramas as if they are against them!"
