Punjab University disallows summer semester
LAHORE, June 5(Daily Times): Punjab University (PU) vice chancellor Arshad Mahmood
disallowed the university's Institute of Communication Studies (ICS) to continue
its summer semester even though the programme had been approved by the board,
said PU sources on Monday. They added that PU had announced summer holidays
starting from June 4. They also said that Prof Dr Mugheesuddin Sheikh, ICS
director, tried to keep summer on by saying that two of the courses offered were
compulsory.
Officials said that the ICS director was upset with the decision.
The PU Academic Staff Association (PUASA) declared on Friday that changing the
summer schedule reflected mismanagement on the PU administration's part. PU
registrar Prof Dr Muhammad Naeem Khan said that the ICS summer
semester was an additional programme and therefore, it could be stopped. He said
the institute would continue this programme in mid July.
