Punjab University reschedules summer vacations
LAHORE, June 2(Daily Times): The Punjab University (PU) on Friday rescheduled the
summer vacations due to extreme hot weather, a press statement said. The
teaching departments, institutes, centres and constituent colleges will remain
closed from June 4 (Monday) instead of June 18 to July 30. The PU Academic Staff
Association (PUASA) criticised the decision. The PUASA in its executive body
meeting declared that the decision and notices given to the boarding students to
vacate hostels would create problems for the students.
The meeting observed that
the students were busy preparing for their exams and the decision would hamper
their studies. PUASA president Dr Mumtaz Salik said there was no emergency in
the university, therefore the administration should not have changed the summer
vacations schedule. He said female boarding students were disturbed by the
sudden decision. He said the PU administration was demanding extra charges from
the students for their stay on the campus after June 4.
