A-Level conversion: SU distance education
Physics pass a must for A-Level conversion
Karachi, 22 March, 2008: O- and A-Level students who
wish to have their certificates converted must show a passing grade in Physics,
decided the Intermediate Boards Committee of Chairmen at a Sukkur meeting
Thursday.
The chairmen also decided that the minimum age for
Matriculation will be 15 years. They also decided that boards will not be
allowed to be affiliated with cadet colleges established by the private sector
and without permission from the GHQ. More than 15 private cadet colleges have
been set up across the country, out which two are in Karachi.
According
to sources, problems with text book printing were also discussed. The minutes of
the meeting will be released within a week and the decisions will soon be
implemented at examinations boards across the country. The two-day meeting was
presided over by Mr Ghulzai, the former chairman of the Board of Examinations of
Quetta. Chairmen from 27 boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE)

SU to set up directorate of distance education
Hyderabad: The Sindh University (SU) has decided to establish 'Directorate of
Distance Education' at the campus to replace the existing degrees program of
Bachelors and Masters for improvement in quality of education.
The
decision in this regard was taken at a meeting of a high-powered committee held
here on Wednesday evening. It was presided over by Vice Chancellor SU, Mazharul
Haq Siddiqi.
Those who attended the meeting included Pro-Vice Chancellor
Dr Rafia Ahmad Sheikh, Registrar Muhammad Saleh Rajar, Dean Faculty of Education
Dr Parveen Munshi, Advisor Planning and Development Muhammad Husain Sheikh,
Controller of Examinations Dr Pervez Ahmad Pathan and other
officials.
The objectives of the Directorate of Distance Education
include facilitating those private candidates at graduate and masters level, who
cannot afford to get education as regular students.
In order to improve
the quality of education of private students, the HEC has accorded approval to
establish the 'Directorate of Distance Education' in six public sector
universities, including the University of Sindh. The News
