Frontier Women University graduation ceremony
Peshawar, March 19, 2008: The Frontier Women University
(FWU) recently held its first graduation ceremony. At the ceremony, the
university's first gold medal was awarded to Mehnaz Warkdak, who scored a four
Grade Point Average (GPA) in her BSc Honours.
Wardak belongs to Maidan in
the remote Lower Dir District. "After doing my BSc in Mathematics from Frontier
Education Foundation (FEF) Dabgari, my family members, especially uncles,
stopped me from studying further," she said.
"I was shocked
to get the warning from my family elders, and felt for a moment that I will not
be able to study further," she recalled.
However, the FWU opened the
same year and she was allowed to study there, she added. Mehnaz attributed her
success to her brother and mother, who pushed her and provided all possible
moral and financial support to her. Daily Times
