Inter exams from May 13
Karachi, 26 March, 2008: The Board of Intermediate Education Karachi has
announced that intermediate annual examination of both parts will commence from
May 13.
BIEK Chairman Anwar Ahm-ed Zai said the exams of preengineering

would appear in these exams at some 110 centres in the metropolis. He said the

KU students face inconvenience at campus
Karachi: Students of the Commerce Department, Karachi University (KU), are facing
difficulties in their routine academic activities due to the mismanagement at
the department and negligence of the teachers.
Overcrowded classrooms,
irregularity in the routine classes and unhelpful behaviour of the none-academic
staff are the main causes of the predicaments for the students of the commerce
department, learned on Monday from the complaints of the
students.
According to reports, the students of the previous and final
classes of M.Com programme at the department are facing the capacity problem as
the previous class has 145 and final class has 103 students, which is more than
300 per cent higher than international standards. As per the admission programme
for 2008, it had been announced that the KU would give admission to only 120
students, but 145 candidates were admitted to the said department.
A student
of the M.Com final year, on the condition of anonymity, informed that
the non-academic staff of the department was very unhelpful towards the students
that often caused mental stress for the students.
He said, "Seven permanent
teaching staff has failed to carry on the regularity in taking the routine
classes at the department. There is no chance that the target of 45 classes will
be completed at the end of the ongoing semester. However, the administration of
the department forced the students not to properly use the computer lab of the
department, as the Internet facility was prohibited for the students.
The
overcrowded classes disrupt the completely academic environment, causing hurdles
for the students in context of obtaining academic knowledge. Conversely, the
department is in need of proper housekeeping facility, as there is no
cleanliness arrangement.
When contacted, Prof Dilshad Zafar, the chairperson
of the commerce department, admitted the said classrooms were overcrowded but in
next semester the student's number would be decreased because several students
left the department after their failure in the semester examination. She
rejected a complaint of the student that the teaching staff had failed to
continue the regularity in taking the routine classes at the department, and
said that academic staff was doing its best in imparting the education.
"The
Department of Commerce University of Karachi has been instrumental in providing
candidates with thorough knowledge and understanding of the principles of
commerce and business. The BS four years and M.Com program are structured on
team based learning, class presentations, case studies, field research reports
and other reference materials, to combine academic theory with practical
problems, seminars and workshops on current economic and business issues are
also organised in the department. These methods of study not only provide excel
in personal development but also prepare the students to accept future
challenges in the fast growing corporate world. It is for these reasons that our
M.Com degree holders have been well received by the national and international
commercial concerns.
The Department of Commerce has been imparting quality
and research oriented business education since 1974. No one can deny that an
educational institution is known because of the academic activities of its
teachers and other members," she added. The Nation
