Education secretary removed: LUMHS MBBS exam result
Education secretary removed
Karachi, Marach 01, 2008: Secretary Education, Choudhry Mohammed Ali, has been removed with
immediate effect, while Additional Secretary, Shafiq Khoso, has been appointed
as new Secretary Education, as serious allegations were levelled against him on
the recruitment of teachers at the primary and secondary level.
The newly
posted Secretary Education, Shafiq Khoso, took charge, while the notification
will be issued on Saturday.
This was the third secretary education that
was removed on the charges of appointment of teachers. Earlier Ghulam Ali Pasha
was removed in the year 2006 on the same charge. However, an inquiry was set
against him. His only sin was that he wanted appointments of teachers on
merit.
Secretary Subhago Jatoi then took charge and continued to work
till November 2007 but was transferred in the Agriculture Department who too was
facing the same charge of corruption.
Choudhry was, however, asked to
report to Islamabad. The sources said he was incompetent. He was the manager of
Agriculture Bank in Mirpurkhas and was inexperienced in the educational sector.
He was the close relative of the former Chief Minister Sindh, Ghulam Arbab
Rahim. He also worked in the Chief Minister House Special Secretary.
The
major reason behind his removal was the appointment of teachers of Higher School
Teacher (HST) and Junior School Teacher (JST). The changes took place at the
time when the newly-elected government is to be formed.
It must be
mentioned here that he made overnight appointments of the teachers at the time
when the caretaker government was to hold the charge. At that time thousands of
teachers were issued offer letters, although they did not even appear in the
tests that were held in the first month of last year.
The newly-appointed
secretary, however, said that his first priority would be to put the Education
department on the right track. With regard to the appointments of teachers, he
said he would study the overall situation, and then be able to give comments on
the recruitment of teachers that was long due in the province of
Sindh.
In his last-minute decision, he made hundreds out-of-turn
promotions of teachers, the sources confided adding that the HMTs were given
shoulder promotions. About 43 male HSTs were promoted to Headmaster (HM) grade
from 16 to 17 grades and 56 female HSTs were promoted to HMs. While nine of the
subject specialists were promoted and one Arabic teacher was promoted as subject
specialist. The News
