LUMS Olympiad 2008 concludes

Lahore, March 10, 2008: The five-day LUMS Olympiad 2008 concluded on Saturday at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). The delegates were awarded prizes for performing well in various categories of the events on the final day.

Around 1,100 delegates from various institutions across the country participated in the event. The 5th day was marked with final competitions of declamation, debates, mind quest, console gaming, math and logic, drama and music. The most colourful event of the final day was the concluding ceremony, which was attended by thousands of students.

Plays: On the occasion, the teams of Khyber Medical College, Iqra University, Lahore Grammar School, Punjab University, King Edward Medical University and the Institute of Management Sciences, Peshawar, performed six plays. The teams were among the 23 teams that took part in the drama competition. Later, the names of the winning students were announced, and prizes and medals were awarded to them.

In the category of Fashion Design, Rida Chaudhry, Saleh Ahmed Salman and Ayman Shah were declared winners. Waqas Tahir won the final round of the math competition. Ali Hussnain, Umer Iqbal and Waleed Jehanabad won the finals of the mind quest.

Hina Rasheed won the finals of thematic art, while Haider Raza, Ashir Noor, Haseeb Zafer, Suleman Sunny and Ghaazal Ashraf won the finals of the live art competition.

Syed Waqas Raza and Zeerak Ahmed won the debates competition, while Anum Shoaib was declared the best speaker of the event.

Waqas Ahmed won the chess championship. Maha Jaffery, Sameen Haroon, Mehak Zafer and Shmyla Khan won the finals of the law moot court. In the category of declamation, Maryam Mumtaz Hassan and Badar Mumtaz Hasan were declared winners, while Anum Mustafa was declared the best speaker for English and Haider Miraj for Urdu.

Ayaz Khan was announced the winner of the photo essay competition and Raza Shah and Yousaf Zubair were declared winners of the music video album competition.

In the category of speed filming, Umer Tariq, Umair Jaswal, Saad Abbasi, Shoaib Rathor and Shahbaz Taufiq were declared victorious. Ahad Ahmed, Shahroze Wasif and Usama Hamayoun won the console gaming competition. Daily Times
