PhDs of PIDE: IIU cultural week
10 PhDs of PIDE to get degrees today
Islamabad, March 11, 2008: Ten PhDs of Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE)
who have completed their PhD programme from the institute will be awarded
degrees here at an impressive convocation today (March 11) at 12.30
p.m.
"This institute has for the first time produced ten PhDs, only in
the discipline of Economics in the history of Pakistan who will get their
degrees here on March 11", Vice Chancellor of the Institute Dr Rashid Amjad told
APP here Monday.
He said that globalisation, higher oil prices and
inflation were the biggest challenges for the prosperity of the country and
well-being of its people. The VC PIDE said now it is the responsibility of the
economists of the country and not by the spin doctors, to work and guide the
nation and the country to meet these challenges by adopting an objective
economic strategy for the prosperity of the country and welfare of its
people.
"People of Pakistan have voted for a change in the economic
policies and system," he remarked. The Economists and planners of the country
realising the economic situation should work for an economic system which should
be efficient, equitable, just and practical, he remarked.
He said that
PIDE is also celebrating its golden jubilee to mark its services to the nation
and the country in the fields of economic theory and research for the socio
economic prosperity of the country.
Dr. Rashid Amjad also said that the
3-day 23rd Annual General Meeting and Conference of Pakistan Society of
Development Economists will begin here at a local hotel from March 12. The theme
of this years Conference is 'Environment and Natural Resource Management: issues
and challenges,' experts, economists and policy makers within the country and
abroad are participating in the conference. The News
IIU to hold cultural week from tomorrow
Islamabad: International Islamic University (IIU) will hold 20th annual
cultural festivities from March 11 to 13.
The activities
would start with a tree plantation ceremony at the Women Campus of the
university while Jiang Yili, wife of the Ambassador of China to Pakistan a
sapling to inaugurate the event, says a statement issued here Monday.
She will also
inaugurate the Islamic World Exhibition on March 11 where as an "international
dress competition" would also be held on March 12.
The prize
distribution ceremony of various competitions would be held on March 13.
Ambassadors of Qatar and Lebanon would be the guests of honour on the
