Students demand change in BA date sheet
Rawalpindi, March 07, 2008: Students of
Punjab University and their parents living in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and
Islamabad have demanded the university administration to change the date sheet
of BA and BSc final examinations immediately.
The students and their parents
opined that there are five consecutive papers of BA and BSc without any gap from
March 14 to 18, which is not appropriate. There is no gap among five papers
while the examination centres have been situated faraway from the students'
homes, they said adding that they would have to spend half of their day to reach
the exam centre and back home, which would leave them with a few hours for exam
preparation, therefore, an alteration should be made in the date sheet, they
demanded.
PU students' protest against the republications of blasphemous caricatures
Lahore: More than 1,500 students of the Punjab University Thursday held a
rally at the New Campus to express their resentment against the republications
of blasphemous caricatures in Danish newspapers. The protesting students called
for boycott of the Danish products. The also demanded the government end
diplomatic ties with Denmark. The Punjab University chapter of Islami Jamiat
Talaba (IJT) had given the call for the 'Tahafuz-e-Hurmat-e-Rasool rally' in
which a large number of female students also took part. The rally, led by Islami
Jamiat Talaba Pakistan Nazim-e-Ala Attique-ur-Rehman, started from the Punjab
University Islamic Centre and after passing through different departments and
constituent colleges of the varsity reached the Institute of Education and
Research (IER) where it culminated.
The students, carrying placards and
banners inscribed with anti-Denmark slogans, chanted slogans and also torched
Danish national. Addressed the protesters, Attique-ur-Rehman demanded the
government end diplomatic ties with Denmark and send back its ambassador as a
protest.
This rally was the biggest event organised by the student wing
of Jamat-e-Islami (JI) in the Punjab University since the Imran Khan episode
which had harmed the Islami Jamiat Talaba for allegedly becoming instrumental in
the arrest of Imran.
