MBBS exams date sheets
Lahore, March 25, 2008: The
Punjab University Examination Department on Monday issued date sheets of MBBS
(Reorganised Scheme), MBBS (New Reorganised Scheme) and MBBS (Latest New
Reorganised Scheme). According to a press statement, MBBS (Reorganised Scheme),
Second Professional, Supplementary Examination 2007 will commence on April 10
and will conclude on April 14. MBBS (New Reorganised Scheme), Second
Professional, Supplementary Examination 2007 will commence on April 10 and will
conclude on April 17 and MBBS (Latest New Reorganised Scheme), Second
Professional, Supplementary Examination 2007 will commence on April 10 and will

PU wins three national awards
Lahore: The Punjab University has won two Tamgha-e-Imtiaz and one Fatima Jinnah
Award this year for its services in the field of higher education and research.
According to a press statement issued on Monday, PU senior mathematician Prof
Muhammad Sharif and genetic scientist Prof Zubair Ahmad were awarded
Tamgha-e-Imtiaz by the Punjab Governor Lt Gen (r) Khalid Maqbool on behalf of
the President on March 23. Prof Sharif has rendered great services in the field
of Applied Mathematics and the application of Einstein's Theory of Relativity
while Prof Zubair Ahmad has been given award for discovering seven new genes
that can cause deafness. His discovery can be helpful in treating deafness and
retinal degradation, an eye disease. Earlier, on March 8, on the occasion of the
World Womenís Day, Shahida Parveen from PU Islamic Studies Department was
awarded the Fatima Jinnah Award. PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Mujahid Kamran has
congratulated all three award winners.
20 theses approved for PhD
Lahore: The Punjab Universityís Advance Studies and Research Board (AS&RB)
on Monday approved theses topics of 20 PhD scholars of various departments and
institutes of the university. The board, in a meeting presided over by
Vice-Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran, also raised objections on some topics and
recommended modifications and corrections.
Symposium on biotechnology
Lahore: The Punjab University Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology (CEMB) organised a
symposium on ëStatus of Biotechnology in Pakistaní on Monday. According to a
press statement, the symposium was held in connection with the 4-day National
Bio-Forum 2008, scheduled to be inaugurated by Punjab Governor Lt Gen (r) Khalid
Maqbool and the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Prof Dr Attaur Rahman
on Tuesday (today). During the symposium, reports were presented on the
performance of the Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology, the National
Institute of Biochemistry and Genetic Engineering, Faisalabad, Punjab University
Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, Biotechnology and Food
Research Centre, the PCSIR Laboratories, Lahore, Punjab University School of
Biological Sciences, GCU Institute of Industrial Biotechnology, the Centre of
Agricultural Biochemistry and Biotechnology, the University of Agriculture,
Faisalabad, the Nuclear Institute for Agriculture and Biology, Faisalabad and
the Plant Biotechnology Programme, Islamabad. The News
