UK fellowship programme
Karachi, March 13, 2008: The British Council Charles Wallace Pakistan Trust
Visiting Fellowship Programme is a scheme of short-term educational/training
visits to the UK, funded by the Charles Wallace Pakistan Trust and managed by
the British Council in Pakistan. The Visiting Fellowship is designed to provide
assistance to individuals who wish to broaden their experience or improve their
skills through a short-term attachment at a UK university or training
institution, the fellowship aims to assist candidates wishing to focus on areas
like Arts and Design, English Language Teaching, Education, Management and
Administration, Social Development, Human Rights and Gender Issues.
The
programme is designed to support applicants who demonstrate a strong desire to
visit the UK in order to enhance their skills, and who can clearly show that,
but for the need for a grant, all other arrangements for their training have
been made. They should also meet the following criteria: Pakistani nationals,
resident in Pakistan Aged between 25 and 45 years. Must have a firm offer (up to
three months) from a UK University or training institution. Award holders will
receive a grant of £1000 per month for a maximum of three months and an
economy-class return airfare for awards of three months duration. The
application form for the fellowship can be downloaded from the British Council

New IBA director
Karachi: The former governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, Dr
Ishrat Husain, arrived here from Islamabad to take over as Director of the
Institute of Business Administration on Wednesday.
According to an IBA
statement, Dr Husain is the HEC-distinguished National Professor of Economics
and Public Policy at Quaid-i-Azam University. He is also the chairman of HEC
social sciences council.
Bahria Uni launches MBA
Karachi: Bahria University Karachi has launched the first ever
'Pharmaceutical Business Management' MBA programme in Pakistan, with the core
objective of fulfilling the training and development needs of the
80-billion-rupee pharmaceutical industry in Pakistan.
The programme was
launched in a ceremony held at the university's Karachi campus Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Bahria University Director Captain (retd) Ashfaq Agha
said that the MBA programme is the first of its kind in Asia. He stated that the
new programme will encourage the youth to explore employment opportunities in
the rapidly developing pharmaceutical industry of Pakistan. The course will also
equip pharmaceutical professionals with a better understanding of the
ever-changing dynamics of the sector by introducing the latest management
techniques. The programme will also assist current managers in the industry in
making better and informed decisions regarding their organization and their
careers. The unique weekend programme will have a minimum impact on the
participants' schedules. App
