PU issued BCom form submission schedule
Lahore, March 12: Punjab University has issued the schedule for submission of admission forms for the Bachelor of Commerce (BCom), Part-I and II, Annual Examination, 2010.

According to a press statement, last date for submission of admission forms with single fee is 31-03-2010 and with double fee is 10-04-2010.

Meanwhile, the PU has issued the written date sheet of the First Professional MBBS, Part-I, Supplementary Examination, 2009. The exam will commence from March 13 and will conclude on March 22, 2010.

PU Examinations Department has also announced the results of MBBS, Third Professional (Re-Organized Scheme), Annual Examination 2009 and MPhil Clinical Psychology, Semester System, Session 2005-2007.

Conference at PU
Lahore: Punjab University (PU) Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran has said that education plays a crucial role in emancipation of women because it leads to economic freedom.

According to a press statement, he was addressing a conference "Resilience, Coping Strategies and Reconstruction of Self among Women" organised by Department of Applied Psychology in connection with International Women's Day at New Campus here on Thursday.

Dr Mujhaid Kamran said without education, Pakistan could not have a bright future.

He said at present the number of female faculty had increased three times of their past strength at the varsity. It is a good sign that women are excelling and moving forward in every sphere of life, he added.

Earlier, Prof Dr Najma Najam, delivering her key-note address, highlighted inbuilt resilience in women to shoulder multiple responsibilities and successfully overcome hardships and challenges with endless vigour and strength.

Dr Rukhsana Kausar said the conference was organised to pay tributes to the whole women fraternity. Eminent researchers, including Dr Farah Malik, Adeela Rahman and others also spoke.

Later, Punjab University (PU) chapter of Islami Jamiat Talaba announced to hold a Book Fair at varsity's New Campus from 30 March to 1 April, 2010.

In a press statement IJT also claimed to organize a Talent Award Show for brilliant students of Punjab University in which different prizes including motorcycles and computers would be awarded to the students.

However, a PU spokesman said IJT, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), would not be allowed to organize the book fair or event like talent award show.

"All such events are organised by the university management itself and only regular students of the university are made part of committees in this regard," he added. He further said the university had yet to announce its schedule for annual book fair. The news

Students clash, IUB teachers for judicial probe
Multan: Teachers of the Islamia University Bahawalpur's (IUB's) college of engineering and technology have demanded a judicial inquiry into the Feb 19 violence on the IUB campus wherein engineer students and Anjuman Tulaba-i-Islam activists clashed with each other forcing the management to close the university till March 12.

About three dozens teachers of the college told a press conference at the local press club on Thursday that they had submitted their resignations to Governor Salmaan Taseer, also the chancellor, in protest at the inappropriate attitude of IUB Vice-Chancellor Dr Bilal Khan.

The press conference was addressed by Muhammad Ali Qureshi, Zulfiqar, Muhammad Bakhsh Alvi and Abdul Aziz.

They said the Pakistan Engineering Council had also condemned the attitude of the VC and as protest suspended the process of approving the degrees of the students.

This week, a probe committee by the IUB recommended sacking of college principal Jan Muhammad for indiscipline. In the ensuing development, three dozen teachers submitted their resignation in protest at the committee's findings.

They said though the college had generated Rs180 million besides regular fees, the administration did not set up laboratories for telecommunications and electrical engineers. They held the VC responsible for on campus clashes and the resignations of teachers and demanded a judicial inquiry into the affairs. They threatened to protest in Lahore and Islamabad if their demands were not meet.

The Federation of All-Pakistan Universities Academic Association also condemned the removal of teachers in IUB and demanded their immediate reinstatement besides termination of the VC.

IUB Public Relations Officer Shahzad Khalid said though teachers had submitted their resignations as a protest token, but in university record they were absent. He said the university had advertised the post as educational activities could not be suspended. Dawn

Thousands of KEMU graduates await degrees
Lahore: Students graduating from king Edward Medical University from 1996 till 2006 have appealed to Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to take action against varsity administration for not holding their convocation until now.

A press statement issued on Thursday said around 200 gold medallists among thousands of graduates still wait for the award of their degrees because the KEMU administration has virtually refused to hold their convocation.

The students said that the KEMU administration has conveniently given 11 gold medals to the preceding vice chancellor's son and four gold medals to the current VC's daughter.

This discriminatory behaviour shows the biased nature of the administration which needs to be checked by the higher authorities so that the neglected students should get their awards and degrees.

The students mentioned that the Allama Iqbal Medical College, Post Graduate Medical Institute, Rawalpindi Medical College and Sheikh Zaid Medical College Rahimyar Khan has recently held convocation to honour their old students but the KEMU refused to incorporate their old students in their 2008 convocation. BISE matric exams
Lahore: Chairman Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education (BISE) Lahore has said a total of 442,550 candidates would appear in the exams for which 801 examination centres had been set up in Lahore and other areas of the board's jurisdiction including Kasur, Okara, Nankana Sahib and Sheikhupura.

He further said a total of 26 centres had been declared 'red mark,' adding FIRs would be registered against anyone who tried any illegal act during the exams.

He said 6627 supervisory staff and 4806 invigilators besides 801 superintendents and similar number of deputy superintendents had been appointed for the exams.

BISE Chairman said two cluster-centres, one each at BISE Lahore's exam centre at Lawrence Road and the Punjab University's exam centre at Wahdat Road, had been established, adding around 5000 candidates would appear in the exams at Lawrence Road centre. PPSC process completed
Lahore: In the light of the orders of Supreme Court of Pakistan, Punjab Public Service Commission has completed the process of examination and selection against the vacancies in Public Prosecution Department within a short period of two months and sent recommendations for the appointment of successful candidates to Public Prosecution Department.

The vacancies include Additional Prosecutor General (BS-19), District Public Prosecutor (BS-19), Deputy Prosecutor General (BS-18), Deputy District Public Prosecutor (BS-18) and Assistant District Public Prosecutor (BS-17). F.P Report

School owners demo
Lahore: The All Pakistan Private Schools Welfare Association (APPSWA) on Thursday staging a protest demonstration rejected the proposed regulatory body on private schools.

According to a press statement, the protest demo was held outside the office of CM's Task Force on Elementary Education Chairman Raja Muhammad Anwar. The representatives of different private schools said private schools were performing better than public sector schools.

They alleged the proposed bill was a conspiracy against the private schools.

They said if the government aimed to hold primary and middle exams of private schools' students under the Punjab Examination Commission (PEC), it should either arrange separate exams for them or set papers for them based on their syllabus.

APPSWA President Zulqarnain Shah also warned that if the government cancelled affiliation of private schools with its boards, they would be compelled to get affiliated with Aga Khan Examination Board or the Federal Board. The news
