KU disaffiliates 5 academic institutes
KARACHI, March 7: The University of Karachi
(KU) has disaffiliated five educational institutes in Karachi, offering various
degree programmes including BA, BCom, BCS, BBA, MBA and PGDPA.
According
to a KU notification issued Tuesday, the KU administration disaffiliated
Progressive Degree Girls College (Street II block J, North Nazimabad), Shaheen
Public College, (Street 14 block 2, Gulshan-e-Iqbal), College of Management and
Information Technology (COMIT) (D-8, third floor, Al-Fiza Towers block 10-A,
Gulshan-e-Iqbal), First College of Business and Science (E-5 Block 10,
University Road), and Arab Foundation College (232-A, block 2, PECHS) after
having thoroughly evaluated these institutions.
Prof Dr Sohail Barkati,
secretary of the KU Affiliation Committee, told Daily Times that these
institutions had been examined for the last 15 to 20 days and a number of visits
were paid to them before this decision was made. "Some of the colleges were
closed and others had been converted into schools after they failed to run these
degree programmes, owing to a shortage of faculty members and other
necessities," he said, adding that these institutes had also failed to attract
students on the basis of their offered degree programmes.
