Education Dept to build gazebos at colleges
LAHORE, March 20(Daily Times): The Education Department
has decided to build wooden gazeboes (shades) at government colleges across the
province to overcome a shortage of common rooms for students, an official of the
department said on Monday.
The official said that initially,
the gazebos would be built at two colleges in every district. In three years
gazeboes would be provided in all colleges without common rooms.
Another
official said the department had been receiving complaints from the
administrations of colleges that owing to non-availability of common rooms,
students faced problems when they were free and waiting for the next class. The
official said there were no common rooms in most colleges.
"A project
has been started to build wooden gazeboes so that students can sit there during
free periods," the official added. Punjab Education secretary Syed Khalid Akhlaq
Gillani said that many colleges had complained that there were no common rooms
for students. He said that it was not possible to construct common rooms in all
colleges.
Gillani said construction of the gazeboes was part of the
Colleges Up-gradation Project being carried out by the National Logistics Cell
(NLC).
"Besides constructing gazebos, funds have been earmarked for
laboratories in colleges under the programme. Rs 2 billion has been allocated
for the first phase of the College Up-gradation Project," he added.
