New dean of KU science faculty assumes charge
KARACHI, March 21(The News): Dr Nikhat Yasmin Siddiqi, the newly appointed Dean of the Faculty of
Science, at the University of Karachi, said that Karachi could be made
mosquito-free only if the city fathers envisage a policy that corresponded with
the suggestions of scientists and other experts.
Dr Siddiqi, who has
relinquished her post as the chairperson of the department of Zoology after
assuming the deanship, has a PhD in Entomology, expressed her candid views while
talking to us at her office, on Tuesday.
"I am sure that the
mosquito menace could be eradicated if all the stakeholders join hands to work
in unison and use the best of knowledge and expertise." She admitted that her
deanship had brought loads of administrative work to her but she will continue
to be an entomologist and research in the field.
Dr Siddiqi, an
accomplished scientist has exquisite literary taste that could be noticed while
talking to her.
Her talk was laced with chaste Urdu and verses that came
naturally while she stressed some points. Her superannuation date is November
17, 2007 but she was not bothered by the short time of glory.
"I have to
do my work and I will do it. I do not believe in bureaucratic tangles and my
major concern will be the welfare of the students, teaching and non-teaching
staff." It was evident that she meant business because she talked with the staff
with firmness and taking the on spot decisions without creating any
fuss.
