Beacon Light Academy bags O-level world honours

KARACHI, March 20(Dawn): Only devoted and dedicated teachers can guarantee Pakistan's prosperous future. Dr Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary said this at a ceremony held by Beacon Light Academy to acknowledge students who excelled in the O Level GCE Edexcel International London University Examination 2006.

Dr Choudhary congratulated the students for performing well in the GCE examination and said the real assets of a nation were its youth, especially those who attained academic excellence.

Eight students of Beacon Light Academy were acknowledged as Top in the World, Top in Karachi Region. They also bagged Award of Excellence.

Syedah Aroob Iqbal was the top most exceptional student. She Topped in the World in five subjects, Chemistry, Accounting, Physics, Mathematics and Pure Mathematics. Aroob also topped in Karachi Region in English language. She also received Award of Excellence for obtaining. 9As.

Ammarah Adnan Topped in the World in Mathematics and Pure Mathematics and bagged Award of Excellence for obtaining 8As. Other students of the school who topped in the World are Syed M.Hameed ul Haq in Pure Mathematics and Yamna Tariq in Urdu.

Students who were Top in Karachi Region were Muhammad Haris Ansari in Biology, Nida Shahab Bham in Pakistan Studies and Muhammad Salman in Islamiat. Aafreen Ali got Award of Excellence for obtaining 8As.

Administrator Sanahullah Kazi said 30 students appeared from the school in the O Level GCE Edexcel International London University Examination 2006. Of these 16 were girls and 14 were boys. The examination was held simultaneously in 80 countries.

He said while he was happy with the school's result, he felt the boys seemed to be lagging. He urged parents to do some soul searching and pinpoint the reasons. Mr Kari said the students had performed wonderfully well because of hard work, the dedication and devotion of the teachers and parents love and sacrifices. He said none of this would have been possible without the Principal, Mrs Azra Anwar Ahmed, who put in long hours and worked selflessly to ensure the children gave their best.

Principal Azra Anwar Ahmad in her concluding remarks said she was proud of students who had become world achievers. She said this showed Pakistani children were second to none if they received the requisite guidance and dedicated themselves to hard work.

She said the mission of Beacon Light Academy was to provide the best possible education to all at affordable cost. She urged parents to be totally involved in their children's education as this would ensure a better future for Pakistan.
