PU serves colleges with warning notices

LAHORE, March 2(Daily Times): The Punjab University has served warning notices to 41 colleges affiliated with it. These notices have been served because of poor student performances in the MA English and MA economics annual examinations of 2006, Daily Times has learnt.

A Punjab University (PU) official said that the colleges had produced less than 20 percent passing results in MA English and MA economics examinations. Explanations have been demanded from their administrations in 10 days, he added. He said that PU administration had also warned them that their affiliations could be cancelled if results didn't improve.

The colleges, which have been issued warning notices for MA English results, are, Govt College Attock (0 percent), Govt College Bhakar (0 percent) Govt Islamia College Chiniot (6.06 percent), Govt College for Women Daska (0 percent), Govt College Samanabad Faisalabad (0 percent), Govt College for Women Madina Town Faisalabad (15.79 percent), Govt College Gojra (0 percent), Federal Govt College for Men Islamabad (0 percent), Federal Govt College for Women Islamabad (18.18 percent), Islamabad College for Girls Islamabad (7.69 percent), Islamabad Model College for Girls Islamabad (12.50 percent), Govt College Jhang (3.13 percent), Govt PST College Kamalia (0 percent), Govt College for Women Kasur (4 percent), Govt Islamia College Kasur (8 percent), Govt College Township Lahore (5.88 percent), Govt Dyal Singh College Lahore (0 percent), Himayat-e-Islam College for Women Lahore (0 percent), Govt Islamia College Civil Lines Lahore (10.81 percent), Govt MAO College Lahore (18.57 percent), Wise College for Girls Lahore (6.06 percent), Govt College for Women Wahdat Colony Lahore (0 percent), Govt College Mianwali (0 percent), Govt College Okara (12.50 percent), Govt College Asghar Mall Rawalpindi (7.14 percent), Govt Gordon College Rawalpindi (0 percent), and Govt College Sheikhupura (0 percent).

The colleges which have been served with warning notices for the MA Economics results are, Govt College Samanabad Faisalabad (18.52 percent), Govt College Gujranwala (10 percent), Govt College Jhang (3.03 percent), Govt PST College Kamalia (0 percent), Govt Islamia College Kasur (0 percent), Govt College Township (0 percent), Govt Fatima Jinnah College for Women Chuna Mandi (16.67 percent), Govt College of Science Wahdat Road (2.86 percent), Govt Islamia College Civil Lines Lahore (0 percent), Govt MAO College Lahore (1.27 percent), Wise College for Girls Gulberg (3.85 percent), Govt College Okara (17.24 percent), Govt College Asghar Mall Rawalpindi (11.63 percent) and Govt Allama Iqbal College Sialkot (10.29 percent).

PU Registrar, Prof Dr Muhammad Naeem Khan confirmed that warning notices had been sent to the above-stated colleges. "PU reserves the right to disaffiliate any college based on poor performance," he said. "Colleges have to improve the standards of education to improve their results."
