School holiday confusion affects thousands
KARACHI, March 5 (The News): The announcement of a school holiday on Monday on account of the Urs of
Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai has created confusion for thousands as earlier it was
assumed that the Urs would fall on Sunday and as such there would be no declared
holiday for this purpose.
The confusion was propounded at private
schools where no notices were issued on Friday about a holiday on
Monday.
The 14th Safar (Sunday) was declared provincial holiday in the
academic calendar on account of the Urs, but the Sindh governmentís announcement
of Monday as public holiday instead of Sunday created a lot of confusion among
the students and parents.
In most of the schools mid term and second term
examinations are being held, but the holiday confusion has perturbed both the
students and parents if the schedule of examinations if any would remained
unchanged or not.
The announcement of the alternate holiday was also made
at a time when the private schools were already closed on a weekend.
Parents and students kept calling the newspaper offices for confirmation
that if it was declared holiday for Monday.
However, it was announced in
the notification issued by the Sindh government on Saturday that all schools and
colleges would remain closed on Monday (today) on account of the Urs.
Secretary Education Subagho Khan Jatoi said that all private and public
schools would remain closed today on account of the Urs of Shah Latif Bhittai.
The parents, however, asserted that, as the Urs actually fell this year
on Sunday, the announcement regarding the holiday should have been made a little
bit earlier to avoid confusion.
