2,000 schools found closed in Sindh
MIRPURKHAS, March 22(The News): The National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) Chairman Naseem
Ashraf has said that 2,000 schools were found closed out of 6,000 surveyed in
Sindh; however, efforts were afoot to reopen them with the help of the
provincial government.
During his visit to the
district, Naseem Ashraf said that 13,000 adult literacy centres in Sindh have
been established by the NCHD to improve literacy rate with special focus on
women.
He further elaborated that at village level a three-month course
of basic literacy plus six-month course of basic English is being taught to
women under the adult literacy programme so that they can further teach their
daughters, who are unable to attend schools for any reason.
Earlier, District General Manager Dr Allah Nawaz Samoon briefed the NCHD chairman about
different projects going on under the NCHD at district level.
The
chairman also met with District Nazim Dr Sughra Junejo and sought her help in
establishing more women literacy centres in villages.
The Nazim lauded
the commission's efforts in the education sector in the district and assured all
help needed in this regard.
