500 USF members rally at Punjab University
Lahore: Around 500 members of the
University Students Federation (USF) on Thursday took out a rally and visited
various departments to show their strength. The members distributed pamphlets,
containing the USF manifesto and future plans among the students.
The USF
has come in the field with a motto 'Non-violent and Non-partisan'. The members,
containing white flags, banners and posters in their hands, peacefully marched
to different departments and made speeches. The rally was started from Law
College and later students groups from different departments joined them.
Students were shouting slogans 'We want Freedom'.
Ahsan Chaudhry, a
student of the Institute of Administrative Sciences, said that the students, who
were present in the rally, were those who had started movement against the IJT.
He said that the aim to holding the rally was to introduce this
organisation to students. "We went to every department and invited students to
join their group," he said.
He said that some elements tried to disturb
their peaceful rally as they tore down the USF's advertisement stickers.
Amir Jalal, a PhD student at the Institute of Biological Sciences, said that USF had been formed to struggle for the students rights. He
said that the USF would raise voice for every student.
Ali Hassan
Warriach, a PU student, said that the USF had no political aims and was not
affiliated with any political party. Earlier, the participant of the rally
raised slogans against the administration of the Hostel No 17, alleging that
their members were being denied residence at the hostel.
After lifting a
ban on students unions, various students are active to set up their wings in
different institutions of the city. A number of political groups like Islami
Jamiat Talaba, Imamia Students Organisation (ISO), Anjuman Talaba Islam, Insaf
Students Federation and USF have started their campaigns to attract the
students. Daily Times
