Primary School Teachers (PST) merit list
PST list released
Karachi, May 12: The
merit list of the Primary School Teachers (PST) has been displayed on
Tuesday (today) at the District Office, Education, Secondary and Higher
Secondary, Boltan Market. The list which was scheduled to be released
on March 29th, 2010, was in pending for reasons best known to the
concerned. According to the recommendation of Reforms Support Unit, one
teacher should cover at least 40 students. More than 3,300 people
cleared the test while there were over 500 vacancies available only.
The successful candidates will be given a contract for three years. The news

"PST ,HST Merit list is clear injustice with Karachi young peoples who cleared the exam above 60 marks criteria .Their seats are reduced because their seats (rights ) are swallowed by transfer of inter teachers in Karachi which have left their post from their own areas to come karachi .This has become language discrepancy criteria., can you tell me teachers who were not able to teach their own community children & were just withdrawing the pays ,why they will work here ,they had just killed hopes of honest jobseekers because they have no political affiliation."

'6,000 posts of teachers vacant'
Karachi: Provision of better educational facilities to students
and special incentives to teachers of the schools situated in far flung
areas of Sindh was discussed at a meeting held on Monday under the
chairmanship of Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah at the CM's House. The meeting decided to grant special incentives to the teaching staff
posted in those schools and set up a five-member committee to ascertain
the present situation and recommend measures to improve literacy rate
in the province. The meeting also reviewed the overall
position of education and educational institutions across the province
and discussed ways and means to increasing the literacy rate. It was informed that there were 260,000 employees in the education
department whereas about 6,000 posts of teachers and 1,600 posts of
lecturers were still lying vacant. The posts are supposed to
be filled through the Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC), which has
already initiated the process of appointing lecturers. The other posts
will be notified soon. Reviewing the progress of ongoing
construction work at various educational institutions buildings, the
meeting decided to ensure completion of the schemes within the
stipulated time. A proposal for the setting up of
comprehensive schools in the province was also considered. The chief
minister stressed the need for increasing literacy rate, saying that a
high literacy rate was essential for progress and prosperity. "While the government is making every possible effort in this regard
and doing its best to maintain a high standard of education, it is the
collective responsibility of all citizens to help promote education in

Sindh University paper postponed by force
Hyderabad: The Sindh University of Jamshoro failed to conduct
the scheduled semester examinations on Tuesday as students of a
nationalist group stopped university point buses from taking students
to the university. Sources said that leaders of a
particular nationalist student organisation were debarred from
appearing in the examination due to their short attendance in classes. According to reports, the president of this organisation did not even care to submit his examination form. The university postponed the paper and the next date will be announced later.
Deans of the University of Sindh have expressed serious concern over
interference of the student organisation in the semester examination on
the second day on Tuesday and decided that from Wednesday, papers would
be held as per schedule, with strict security arrangements. A high-level meeting was convened to discuss the Tuesday situation. Acting vice-chancellor Prof Dr Iqbal Ahmed Panhwar presided over the
meeting attended by deans of all faculties, registrar, controller of
examinations, director of students affairs and other officials
concerned. The meeting reviewed the current situation on the
campus and expressed concern over stopping of point buses at different
routes by a political student group. Registrar Muhammad
Hussain Shaikh informed the meeting that examination papers on the
first day on Monday were conducted in a peaceful manner in the morning
and evening shifts. The meeting decided to take strict security measures for holding the remaining papers. The meeting was informed that the admission forms of some students
belonging to a political group were not accepted for the next higher
class due to their lower percentage in previous exams, therefore they
stopped university point buses by force. The university
authorities also convened a meeting of different groups of students and
they offered their full cooperation to conduct examination. Dawn

KU Academic Council discusses grievances of varsity staff
Karachi: A meeting of the Academic Council of the University of Karachi
was held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr
Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui to discuss the grievances of the varsity's
employees, following a recent incident in which a student manhandled a
senior professor within the campus. The vice-chancellor stressed the
need to take immediate measures to resolve the matters in order to
continue routine academic and administrative activities within the
campus. In this regard, the Academic Council nominated a committee that
would be responsible to discuss and resolve the issues and plan
strategies to be adopted in the future. ppi
