Lahore, May 10: Punjab University (PU) has issued the written examination date sheet of MA (Part-I) Annual Exam, 2011. The exam will commence from June 9 and conclude on June 27, 2011.

PU rejects IJT charge
Lahore: Punjab University administration has termed the press release issued by the Islami Jamiat Tulba regarding holding of book fair jointly with the administration as baseless.

The administration made it clear that there was no agreement and involvement of any student organization in book fair issue and the statement of IJT was fictitious. Like previous years, the Punjab University administration, itself, is organizing book fair with the help faculty members and students. Over 2,000 submit forms for HSC Annual Examination
Karachi: More than 2,000 forms were received on Monday for HSC Annual Examination. An official of the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) stated this. The 2,000 forms were received during the extended period for their receipt. The candidates who have been unable to submit their examination forms for these examinations can submit their forms up to May 12 as no form would be entertained after that date. The official of the BIEK said that the first phase of the HSC Annual Examination is scheduled to commence from May 16. Some 175,000 candidates are expected to appear in the examination. app

'Female teachers threatened'
Karachi: Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association (SPLA) president Ather Mirza, general secretary Iftikhar Azmi and other office-bearers stated in a joint statement on Monday that the government had been threatening college teachers instead of resolving their problems.

They said that several female college teachers were threatened on cell phones and were verbally ordered to report to the department. SPLA president vowed to continue their struggle, regarding the education sector in Pakistan despite of all threats. Daily times

Teachers term service structure 'unfavourable'
Peshawar: Expressing dissatisfaction over the recently introduced service structure, primary teachers at the 'First Primary Teachers Convention' described it detrimental to the promotion of the teachers to next grades.

The moot was held under the aegis of All Primary Teachers Association (Apta) at the Nishtar Hall with Minister for Elementary and Secondary Education Sardar Hussain Babak as the chief guest.

Speakers feared that about 40,000 primary schoolteachers having Master of Education (MEd) degrees would be deprived of promotion in the wake of the implementation of new service cadre.

They added that another 18,000 primary teachers having Bachelor of Education (BEd) would also be affected in terms of promotion to the next grade under the service structure. They said under the new service structure, the teachers having experience from 15 to 40 years will retire in the same grade and urged the government to chalk out a strategy so that the teachers were not affected by the new service cadre.

They sought promotion of the primary teachers to the next grade under the timescale policy to end the sense of deprivation among the primary teachers. The speakers said a primary teacher with graduation degree and CT and BEd should be promoted to grade14 and 15, respectively, after 15 years teaching experience.

Sardar Hussain Babak pledged that the Education Department would revive the old service structure for teachers and increase the quota for the Primary School Teacher. "It's imperative for improving the education standard in Pakistan to solve the genuine problems of the teachers' community," he said, adding that successive rulers paid little attention to the problems of the teachers and claimed that the present provincial government had solved most of their miseries.

Besides teachers, the convention was also attended by Elementary and Secondary Education Secretary Muhammad Arifeen, Director Education Syeda Sarwat Jehan and Apta President Malik Khalid Khan. The news
