KU extends MA exam form date
Karachi: The University of Karachi (KU) on Sunday announced May 17 as
the last date for submission of annual examination forms for MA Previous
and Final (Regular). The forms can be submitted along with the
prescribed fee of Rs 2,675 in the candidates' respective colleges.
Moreover, examination forms and fee for MA and Double MA Previous and
Final (Private) examinations can be submitted till May 31 at the bank
counter of Silver Jubilee Gate. The KU has
also given a final chance to those who were registered in 2005. Such
candidates can submit their forms with a fee of Rs5000.

KU conducts aptitude test for PhD in Law
Karachi: Karachi University conducted an aptitude test for PhD in Law on Sunday in which
around 54 candidates appeared. Only five seats have been allocated for
the course. According to the KU administration, the test
was conducted in a peaceful environment. A list of successful candidates
would be uploaded on the institute's website on May 16, whereas
interviews would be conducted on May 26. On the day of the interview, students would have to write a two-page research proposal in one hour. As
per the directives of the vice chancellor, special security
arrangements were made before the test to prevent any untoward incident.
KU extends late date for payment The
University of Karachi (KU) has extended the last date for the payment of
the semester examination with a late fee of Rs500, to May 15, KU
administration announced on Sunday. The fee should be deposited in the United Bank Limited campus branch after endorsement by Bursar Office. The news

KU evening programme fees date
Karachi: Directorate Evening Programme, University of Karachi, has
notified that all those students of BS, BS (Honors) and Masters
programmes of the evening programme, who have not so far paid their
tuition/examination fee, are required to clear all their dues before May
26. An announcement on Friday warned that those who fail to pay off
their dues by this date would not be allowed to appear in the
examinations. app

University of Karachi hails release of Dr Chishti
Karachi: The University of Karachi (KU) on Friday organised a brief
ceremony and distributed sweets among faculty members to celebrate the
news that Pakistan's first virologist Dr Khalil Chishti is being
released. On the occasion, KU Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Muhammad
Qaisar congratulated entire Pakistani nation, specifically Dr Chishti's
family. VC and faculty members also expressed gratitude to President
Zardari, Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan, Ansar Burney and all
others who struggled for release of Dr Chishti. Dr Chihti's daughter Dr
Aysha, while expressing her views, said that entire Pakistan nation
stood together for the release of her father. She appreciated the effort
made by the students and faculty members of the KU for raising their

BIEK reschedules postponed paper
Karachi: The paper of commercial geography part II of the Commerce (Regular) group
at the Government National College, which was postponed earlier, has
been rescheduled for May 24. According to a notification by the Board
of Intermediate Education, the exam would be held at the Government
Degree Boys College, adjacent to Shaikh Zaid Centre, University Road
from 2:30pm to 5:30pm. The news

Exam centre changed
Karachi: The Board of Intermediate Education Karachi
has announced that the commercial geography paper-II of the commerce
group (regular candidates) originally scheduled for May 9 at the
National Government College No.2, will now be held on May 24 at the Govt
Degree Boys College, University Road, Gulistan-i-Jauhar.
The paper was cancelled after hooliganism at the centre over use of unfair means by some candidates. app

Dr Atta elected Turkish Science Academy member
Karachi: Dr Atta-ur-Rehman, former chairman of the Higher Education Commission
(HEC), has been elected by the Bilim Akademisi – The Science Academy,
Turkey (TÜBA), as a foreign honorary member. He was elected for his services to science and the higher education sector in Pakistan, and internationally. He has a total of 843 publications, including research papers and several books. In 2006, he was elected as Fellow of Royal Society, London. In
1999, he won the prestigious United Nations Educational, Scientific and
Cultural Organisation Science Prize. Honorary doctorate degrees were
conferred on him by several universities, including the Cambridge
University in 1987, Coventry University in 2007, Bradford University and
the Asian Institute of Technology in 2010. He was awarded
the Tamgha-i-Imtiaz (1983), Sitara-i-Imtiaz (1991), Hilal-i-Imtiaz
(1998), and the highest national civil award Nishan-i-Imtiaz (2002). Currently,
Professor Dr Atta-ur-Rahman is serving as the Coordinator General of
COMSTECH and is the president of the Pakistan Academy of Sciences.

SU selection board holds interviews of teachers for different disciplines
Hyderabad: Interviews were conducted for different teaching positions in the
disciplines of the faculties of natural sciences, social sciences, arts,
education, Islamic studies and pharmacy at the 151st meeting of the
Sindh University (SU) selection board held under the chairmanship of
acting Vice- Chancellor Prof Dr Perveen Shah, said a handout issued on
Sunday. The selection board interviewed online for the
post of assistant professors the three university teachers of English
disciplines, now engaged in their PhD in the UK. It is for
the first time in the history of the SU that the selection board
interviewed for appointment through video conferencing from candidates
residing in the UK and pursuing PhD studies there. By doing so the SU
set a new trend of using the technology of video conferencing for the
purpose. It is an innovative breakthrough. Meanwhile the
Registrar SU postponed the interviews scheduled to be held on Sunday
(today), May, 13 of all candidates for different posts. The news
