PBCC Class 9th admission | UK scholarships

Class 9th admission date
Lahore, May 31: The Punjab Boards Committee of Chairmen (PBCC), in its recent meeting held on Tuesday, has agreed to extend the admission date of class nine. According to a press release issued on Wednesday by BISE Lahore, admission date for class nine now has been extended from May 25 to May 31. It further says that heads of all the government and government affiliated educational institutions should submit online data entry and registration of enrolling students.

Lahore: Punjab University Examinations Department announced the results of various Masters (MA/MSc) programmes on Thursday.

According to a press release issued on Thursday, the results of MA Arabic, Part-I Supplementary Examination 2012, MA D and S.S, Part-I Supplementary Examination 2012, MA English, Part-I Supplementary Examination 2012, MA History, Part-I Supplementary Examination 2012, MA Islamic Studies, Part-I Supplementary Examination 2012, MA Political Science, Part-I Supplementary Examination 2012, MSc Applied Psychology, Part-I Supplementary Examination 2012, MSc Chemistry, Part-I Supplementary Examination 2012, MSc MCWM, Part-I Supplementary Examination 2012, MSc Statistics, Part-I Supplementary Examination 2012, MSc Social Work, Part-I Supplementary Examination 2012 and MSc Zoology, Part-I Supplementary Examination 2012 have been announced.

UVAS awards five PhD degrees
Lahore: University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore awarded PhD degrees to five scholars in various disciplines.

According to a press release issued on Thursday, Dr Saima Inayat d/o Muhammad Inayat Ullah was awarded a PhD degree in the Dairy Technology. She completed her thesis titled "Rheological and Microstructural study of Commercial Cheddar and Mozzarella Cheeses by using farinograph" under the supervision of Prof Dr Muhammad Ayaz.

Dr Tanveer Hussain s/o Ch Ghulam Hussain Raza got his PhD degree in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology under the supervision of Prof Dr Masroor Ellahi Babar. The title of his thesis was "Development of a Reliable Micro-satellites Markers Panel for Parentage Analysis in Cattle Breed of Pakistan and its validation through cytochrome b gene sequencing".

Dr Masoodul Haq Kakar s/o Abdul Haq Khan completed his PhD in Parasitology under the supervision of Prof Dr Azhar Maqbool. The title of his thesis was "Epidemiology, Zoonotic Potential, Serodiagnosis and Chemotherapy of Sheep Fasciolosis in Different Ecological Zones of Balochistan".

Dr Muhammad Zubair Shabbir s/o Muhammad Shabbir and Dr Qaiser Akram s/o Muhammad Akram got their PhD degrees in Microbiology.

Dr Zubair completed his research work under the supervision of Prof Dr Masood Rabbani. The title of his thesis was: "A Metagenomic Analysis of the Respiratory Microbiota of Birds".

Dr Qaiser Akram did his research work under the supervision of Prof Dr Khushi Muhammad.

The title of his thesis was "Factors Affecting Biomass Production of Baby Hamster Kidney Cell Line in Roller Bottle Culture Systems for the production of Foot and Mouth Disease Virus." The news

UK offers 400 scholarships
Islamabad: The UK Government and the Lahore University of Management and Sciences (LUMS) will work together to help nearly 400 of the brightest students from disadvantaged households in Pakistan to attain quality higher education.

According to a press released the UK Government's Department for International Development (DFID) and LUMS agreed on Thursday to launch the Empowerment through Education Initiative, which aims to help alleviate poverty through quality education.

The five-year programme will be managed by LUMS will identify and support students who would otherwise be unable to afford quality higher education, for undergraduate and graduate degrees.

The programme will target impoverished regions of the country.

It will also have a special focus on girls to increase their access to higher education. Dawn

226 students awarded degrees
Islamabad: The 28th Convocation and Prize Distribution Ceremony of the Islamabad Model College for Girls (Postgraduate), F-7/4, was held here on Wednesday.

On the occasion, degrees were conferred upon 266 graduates and postgraduate students. As many as 16 students received roll of honour for their outstanding performance in university examinations.

Fatima Jinnah Women University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Samina Amin Qadir was the chief guest on the occasion. She held several administrative positions during her professional career, including dean of the faculty of arts and social sciences, head of the Department of English Language and Literature and director of the Women's Research and Resource Centre from 2007-2011 at the Fatima Jinnah Women University, Rawalpindi.

Aqdas Fatima, a student of MA Mass Communication, was awarded Hamid Alvi Gold Medal for securing first position in the college and attaining fourth position in the Punjab University examinations 2011. Azra Raza Excellence Award of Rs50,000 was given to Saba Bibi, a graduate of 2011.

Principal Firdous Fatima presented the college report in which she gave details about the performance of the students in the Punjab University examinations at graduate and postgraduate levels, performance of students in co-curricular as well as curricular activities throughout the academic year.

She said that the Islamabad Model College for Girls (Postgraduate), F-7/4, is the only college in Pakistan which has been granted a license by Pemra for an FM radio station - Voice of Margalla (FM 98.6) - which broadcasts educational programmes for students.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Samina Qadir congratulated the students for their exceptional results. She said women play a great role in building a nation so they should acquire education. She advised students to serve the humanity after completing their education. The news
