52pc girls among AIOU students
ISLAMABAD, May 3(Dawn): Fifty-two per cent of students enrolled with the Allama
Iqbal Open University (AIOU) are females and more and more girl students are
coming to the university and taking part in its co-curricular
activities.
This was stated by Dr Mehmoodul Hassan Butt, vice-chancellor
AIOU, while distributing awards to the successful students who participated in a
co-curricular programme conducted by the Rawalpindi campus on
Wednesday.
According to a press release, the VC said universities should
not only impart education but also provide an opportunity to the students to
build good moral characters and become active citizens of the
country.
Speaking on the occasion, the regional director Rawalpindi said
there were 36 campuses of the university in the country. He said according to
admission ratio Pindi campus was the biggest. Last year, course enrolment in the
region was nearly 1,08,000.
In the Naat contest, Huma Maryum stood first,
Kanwal Zahoor second and Safia Masoom grabbed the third position. Mohammad
Mehboob Khan got first position in speech contest, while the second and third
positions went to Saiqa Bibi and Sadia Zahid.
In the contest of singing
national songs, Asma Jabeen won first prize, Mazhar Ali Khan second and Mohammad
Haris got third position.
