Link established between IIUI, Newport University
ISLAMABAD, May 26(Daily Times): The International Islamic University Islamabad's (IIUI)
Higher Education Link has formally been established with the University of
Wales, Newport, UK.
This was announced at a launch ceremony of the link
held at the IIUI Central Library.
Speaking on the occasion, IIUI
President Dr Anwar Hussain Siddiqui appreciated the Higher Education Commission
(HEC) for encouraging Pakistani universities and providing opportunities of the
joint higher education link programme. He hoped the link between IIUI and the
Newport University of Wales would contribute to the improvement of language
teaching at the higher level. Dr Siddiqui said due to the diverse levels and
backgrounds of the student community, the IIUI had special language teaching
requirements.
On this occasion, University of Wales Languages Department
Head Dr Jennifer Cann talked about her university and hoped that the link would
mutually benefit both institutions. IIUI Academics Director Gulzar Ahmad gave a
detailed briefing on the university's efforts for the establishment of links
with other universities, especially with institutions of higher studies in the
UK. The launch ceremony is followed by a 6-day workshop on 'Materials
Development in English Language Training' that will be conducted by Dr Cann.
IIUI Faculty of Languages, Literature and Humanities Dean Dr Siddiq Shibli, IIUI
English Department Chairperson Prof Munawar Iqbal Gondal, British Council
Islamabad Representative Iram Ayub and numerous University faculty members were
also present on the occasion.
