KU committee for power distribution system
Karachi, May 23,(The News): Vice Chancellor (VC), University of Karachi, Prof Pirzada Qasim, has constituted
a committee to look after the improvement of the power distribution system in
the campus. The step has been taken to use the recently allocated Rs105 million
by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to remove the constant breakdown of
electric supply in the university.
Prof Nasiruddin Khan of the Department
of Mathematics is the convener of the committee while Dr Rafiq Alam Khan,
Chairman, Department of Pharmacology; Dr Muhammad Qaisar, Academic Advisor; Dr
Shahid Zaidi of Applied Physics and Electrical Engineer Sohail are the members.
The generous grant by HEC comes in response to the PC-1 sent by the VC
to get financial assistance to curb the menace of power breakdowns in the
university that severely affected the teaching and research activities.
It may be recalled that the university had planned to build its own
power generation plant to get adequate power supply but could not go ahead
because it lacked sufficient funds for the purpose.
The university has
not shelved the original idea and intends to collect the required funds from the
philanthropists of the city and the industrial sector.
