PU teachers and IJT oppose entry tests system
LAHORE, May 30(Daily Times): The Punjab University Academic Staff Association (PUASA)
and the Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) on Tuesday opposed the entry test system for
admission to the varsity and asked the PU administration to adopt the open merit
policy.
PUASA President Dr Mumtaz Salik said that the PU
teachers should openly oppose the entry test system adopted by the varsity for
admission to BA/BSc and MA/ MSc programmes. He said that the PUASA at a meeting
on Tuesday had passed a resolution against the system. The PU administration
introduced the entry test system last year and the National Testing Service
(NTS) conducted entry tests. He said that there was no justification for
conducting entry tests because many students who got good marks in examinations
could not pass entry tests.
Dr Salik said that the Federation of All
Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association would oppose the system at all
public universities of the country. "The university should make admissions on
open merit," he added. IJT PU chapter nazim Muhammad Ayub said that
the IJT was against the entry test system because it was against the spirit of
competition. Ayub said that the IJT had opposed the entry test system at the PU
last year and it would also do so this year.
