Schoolchildren suffer because of strike
LAHORE, May 17(Daily Times): Schoolchildren were greatly affected by Wednesday's strike
of two-stroke rickshaws, especially those who had hired rickshaws to go to
school. Parents complained that they had to take their children to school
themselves because their hired rickshawalas did not show up. Mohammed Usman, a
resident of Shadbagh, said that he had to go to Shadman on his motorcycle to
drop his son in school at 7am, return home in Shadbagh and go to his office in
Gulberg at 9am. He said he had to repeat this exercise at 1:30pm when he had to
pick his son from school, drop him home and return to his office. Zarmina, a
student of class five at the Queen Mary School, said she could not go to school
due to the strike. Her mother said, "Four girls go with Zarmina on the same
rickshaw. They could not attend school". Nayab, a class seven student, also
complained about lack of transport. Faiza, a resident of Samanabad and a student
of Fatima Jinnah Medical College, said she could not get a rickshaw or van and
reached college late. She said that she could not get transport to return home
and had to call her brother to pick her up.
