HEC approves reproductive sciences centre
LAHORE, May 15(Daily Times): The Higher Education Commission
(HEC) has approved the establishment of Centre for Research in Endocrinology and
Reproductive Sciences at the University of Health Sciences (UHS).
The
project will cost Rs 37 million and will be completed in two years, said a press
release on Monday.
According to Prof M Arslan, head of the Physiology
and Cell Biology Department at UHS, the centre will strengthen biomedical
research in the country. He said the fundamental and clinical research in
reproductive health was the top priority of the World Health Organisation. The
centre will introduce PhD in fundamental and applied endocrinology and
reproductive sciences. Emphasis will be given to the study of diabetes during
childhood and adolescence, he said.
Prof Arslan said that the centre
would have a strong integrative approach. It would use sophisticated
experimental tools to deal with important physiological questions at cellular
and molecular levels relevant to endocrinology and reproductive sciences.
