University buses being snatched at gunpoint
KARACHI, May 15(Daily Times): At least nineteen buses
belonging to the University of Karachi, NED and Government College of Technology
were snatched at gunpoint across the city by unidentified young men from a
political party.
"This is not in my knowledge," said the chief of police.
"And no FIRs have been registered either."
The KU buses were snatched
during the day time from Shahra-e-Faisal, main University Road, Nazimabad Board
Office, Malir Jinnah Square, National Highway, Korangi Road, Karimabad,
Nazimabad Petrol Pump, Gulshan-e-Iqbal and New Karachi. Seven of NED's buses
were snatched from North Nazimabad near Secondary Board Office, Numaish
Chowrangi, Jamshed Quarters and Gulshan-e-Iqbal near Maskan Apartments. All
incidents took place at 7:30 a.m.
All the drivers of the buses were also
'abducted' with their vehicles but seven of them returned later in the day. Four
of the KU drivers are still missing. According to the drivers who returned, the
young men who took the buses were ostensibly from a political party and some of
them were carrying party flags. The students in the buses were offloaded and
some of them and the drivers were beaten for putting up a resistance.
