Top SU slots filled by retired professors, admin bosses
JAMSHORO, May 22(The News): The contractual reappointments of retired professors to key positions
in the University of Sindh have created resentment among the young teaching
staff and fresh position holders and PhDs of the university.
The deprived
talent waiting for appointments to such positions or the ones already serving in
the university and waiting for promotions see the appointments of retired
professors on a contract basis as an injustice to their right of appointment or
promotion to next higher position.
Professor Abdul Khalique Chachar
retired on medical grounds was again appointed to the University of Sindh as
inspector collages on a contract basis, while Imam Ali Shah retired as auditor
in 2002 got appointed as auditor in the finance wing of the university on a
contract basis.
Likewise, Muhammad Usman Ghani also retired as a bursar
in 2001 but soon he too got the same position on a contract basis in the finance
wing of the university. Also, Nabi Bux Ladak who retired as office assistant
from the accounts department was appointed as office assistant on a contract
basis. Retired police DSP Guhlam Hyder Mughal has been appointed as security
officer on recommendations put forward by influential people of the area, while
retired chief accountant Qadir Bux Jatoi also won his fortune by getting
reappointed to the Statistics Department.
Retired EDO Muhammad Usman
Mangi has been posted as director with a handsome package. Dr Raees Ahmed,
retired as bursar in 1995, has been serving in the university on a contract
basis for the last 10 years. Another retired officer, Saeed Ahmed Soomro, served
as registrar. However, after a hue and cry he was removed from the
responsibility of registrar, but he continues now as a visiting professor and is
enjoying a handsome salary package. A retired dean of social sciences, Iqbal
Qureshi, has been appointed as visiting teacher on contract.
Besides, Dr
Shahnawz Abbasi, former registrar, has been reappointed as professor of biology,
retired professor Guhlam Hussain Khaskhali has been reappointed as visiting
professor to the Sindh Development Study Center (SDSC) and retired professor Ali
Nawaz Phulpoto has been reappointed as visiting professor to the fine arts
department.
However, sources revealed to this correspondent that reports
of appointments of retired professors, administrative bosses and financial gurus
purely on the basis of favouritism and nepotism have been sent to the chairman
of the Higher Education Commission and the chancellor of the Sindh University.
The authorities have been moved to divert their attention to the worries of the
young talent as well as of fresh appointees.
However, Muhammad Salijh
Rajar, said that there were tremendous opportunities for
the new and young talent, adding that those appointed on a contact basis were
also expert people in their respective fields and subjects.
