Campus protests continue: Police arrests
LAHORE, Nov 13, 2007: Students of several colleges and universities in the city
on Monday continued protesting against the imposition of emergency in the
country and the proclamation of the Provisional Constitutional Order (PCO). More
than 100 Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) students attended a
hunger strike on campus. They demanded the restoration of human rights and the
freedom of the media. They wore black armbands and displayed banners at the
camp.
Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) workers at the Punjab University (PU) took out
a rally at the Chemical Engineering Department. PU IJT nazim Muhammad Ayub said
a 'Pakistan Bachao Tehrik' had been started. He said November 14 would be
observed as a black day and the students of all colleges and universities in the
city would hoist black flags on their campuses and wear black armbands. He said
on-campus courts would be set up in which verdicts would be given against judges
who took oath under the PCO. Brochures will be distributed on November 16, he
added.
Students of the FAST-National University, Beaconhouse National University
and Forman Christian College University also wore black armbands and protested
on campus. This was the first protest in the FCCU, but the administration forced
the students to return to their classes. Daily Times
Police arrest students for staging protest
ISLAMABAD: Dozens of school and college children's arrested by the capital police, for
staging protest demonstration against the imposition of emergency rule in the
country by the General Pervez Musharraf here on Monday. The students of
different private schools and colleges mainly from Beacon House, Frobels and
Educators were holding placards scribing slogans in favour of Judiciary and
media.
The students were chanting anti government slogans and demanding to
free media and to the release of the innocent people who have been detained by
the police during last week.
They were also demanding to free the judges of
the Supreme Court who refused to take oath under Provisional Constitutional
Order and latter were locked up in their homes by the law enforcement
agencies.
The youth were also demanding Pakistan Army to go to the barracks
and restore the civil rule in the country.
However many students taped their
lips as protest while others were chanting slogans.
In the meanwhile police
arrived at the scene to disperse the students and teacher who staged a protest
demonstration but the students remained there and kept on agitating. Observing
such situation senior police official deployed at the site ordered to policeman
to arrest all of them and around forty students were taken into the police
custody but latter the police decide to handover the children's to their parents
as many arrested were minors. The Nation
