University of Balochistan exams postponed
QUETTA: University of Balochistan has postponed MA/ M
Sc Annual Exam 2006, LLB Annual Examination 2006 and BS Applied Geology Annual
Examination 2007.According to a notification fresh dates will be announced soon.
Meanwhile UoB, Balochistan University of Information Technology and Management
Sciences and other educaitonal institutions remained closed Thursday in the
District. The step was taken to avoid any untoward incident following death of
Balaach Marri. Meanwhile announcement of Board of Intermediate and Secondary
Education said here today that examination Bi-Annual DAE, FA/ F Sc, Languages,

PBTE announces revised date for admissions
LAHORE: Punjab Board of Technical Education (PBTE) Lahore has announced the revised schedule for
admissions to the Diploma of Associate Engineer, Diploma of Commerce and
Business Administration 2007-08.
The date for submitting admission
forms to the Board has been extended from November 24 to 28.
The date for depositing
registration and sports fee in the bank will however remain the same - November
24, after which no admissions will be allowed, according to a PBTE press

SSUET students win two awards in UTech
Karachi, Nov 23: The students of Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) won the first and second prizes
for two different projects at the UTECH-2007 competition organised by Usman
Institute of Technology. Shahzeb Mahboob and Ashaar Saleem won the first prize
on their project 'Solution-Net' while Sajid Ali, Umair Hussain and Arsalan Ahmed
bagged the second prize in another software competition.
D.J. College meeting
The annual General Body meeting of the College
Management Committee (CMC) of the D.J. Sindh Government Science College Karachi
will be held on November 24. This was announced by the Principal of the
institution in a statement on Thursday. He has asked the parents of the students
of the college to also attend the meeting.
PU issues practical exams date-sheets
LAHORE: Punjab University Examination Department has
issued the date-sheets of practical examinations of B.Sc. Engineering, Final
Professional, Second Annual Examination 2004 and M. Phil Dentistry, Part-II
(4-year scheme), Annual Examination 2007. Both the examinations would commence
from tomorrow Monday), a PU spokesman said here on Sunday. Detailed date-sheets

PU awards two PhD degrees
THE Punjab University has awarded a PhD degree to Mohsan Siddiq Khan s/o Muhammad Siddiq in
the subject of Physics after the approval of his thesis entitled 'Aspects of
Integrable Systems'. His supervisor was Prof Dr Mahmood-ul-Hassan, Assistant
Professor, PU Department of Physics. Meanwhile, another PhD degree was awarded
to Abdul Rahman Khalid Madani s/o Rana Muhammad Ishaq in the subject of Arabic
after the approval of his thesis entitled 'Dirasah Naqdiah Ma Tahqeeq Kitab
Aldebaj Ala Sahi Muslim Lisayoti'. His supervisor was Prof Dr Zahoor Ahmad
Azhar, Dean, Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences, University of
Faisalabad.
B Pharmacy exam date-sheet
THE Punjab University has issued the date sheet of B pharmacy, final professional, annual
examination, 2006. According to a press statement, the exam will start on
December 4 and end on Dec 17. Detailed date sheet is available at university
website www.pu.edu.pk.
PU meeting held
A MEETING of the Punjab University School of Biological Sciences Board of Governors was held on
Thursday. According to a press statement, the meeting approved the proceedings
of previous meeting and discussed various matters including budget for the
current fiscal year, salary package of faculty employed under the Tenure Track
System and upgrade of the faculty.
PU Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad
Arif Butt chaired the meeting. He said all the measures had been taken to bring
the academic and development infrastructure of Punjab University up to world's
institutes' level. The Higher Education Commission has also allocated funds for
PhD scholars, therefore, the universities must play their due role, he
added.
Academicians honoured
THE School of Biological Sciences of the University of Aberdeen, United Kingdom, has included
the names of Prof Dr M Sharif Mughal, chairperson of Government College
University Department of Zoology, Lahore, and Ms Ayesha Shuja, lecturer of
Zoology, in the staff directory profile of its website: www.abdn.ac.uk According
to a press statement, both academicians have the job title of honorary research
fellow of the Aberdeen University. They have visited the university in March
2007 for three weeks. The visit was arranged under the HEC-BC Link Programme.
DUHS entry test
Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS)
will be conducting the entrance test for admission in Bachelors programme of
Physical Medicine and Dental Technology 2007-08 on Sunday, December 9 at Dow
Medical College. The prospectuses are available at UBL, Baba-e-Urdu road and
forms can be submitted till December 1, said a university's notification on
Thursday.
2 GCU students complete MPhil theses
LAHORE: Two MPhil students of the Department of
Psychology of the Government College University have successfully completed
their research projects. According to a press statement, Usman Rasheed completed
his research under the supervision of Dr Kausar Suhail. This study was conducted
to assess the impact of psychosocial rehabilitation program on symptoms as well
as quality of life of patients. The other students Zahra Fatima completed her
thesis based on an international collaborative research project supervised by Dr
Farah and Prof Glyn Humphreys, University of Birmingham, UK.
GCU wins APUPC-2007
DEBATING Society of the Government College University (GCU) has won the All Pakistan Urdu Parliamentary
Championship 2007 hosted by Kinnaird College. The GCU team, comprising Rana
Hamza Ijaz, Sarim Israr, Abdullah Abbasi, Sardar Junaid Khan and Owais Maqbool
Bari, beat FC College to lift the trophy for the seventh time in the list of
thirteen years. Prof Dr Mira Phailbus, Provincial Minister for Education and
Minorities and Principal Kinnaird College were the chief guest. Ummar Ziauddin,
President GCU Debating Society, was the best English Speaker of the tournament
at the All Pakistan English Parliamentary Debating Championship. The News
