FCCU hold 58th convocation
LAHORE, Nov 06, 2007: The Forman Christian College University (FCCU) held its
58th annual convocation on Monday. Governor Lt Gen (r) Khalid Maqbool presided
over the function. He praised the university and said its degree was recognised
worldwide. He said the FCCU had produced scholars and leaders like General
Pervez Musharraf. He praised the FCCU faculty for working hard for improving the
status of the university. He said the faculty played a very important role in
the progress of institutions. He said the tenure track system was introduced for
the capacity building of universities' faculty. He said the FCCU faculty were
getting very reasonable salaries under the system. He said the government was
taking several steps to help professional teachers perform better.
The governor
announced a Rs 500 million grant for a new block at the FCCU. Before the
governor's address, FCCU rector Dr Peter H Armacost spoke on the varsity's
history. He said that after the university's denationalisation the number of its
students had increased from 3,600 to 4,700, which included 700 Christians. He
said the faculty included 60 PhD holders. He said the varsity gave scholarships
to 1,700 students. Education minister Mian Imran Maqsood also attended the
