HEC launches short-term teacher exchange programme
Nov 05, 2007: To facilitate the exchange of faculty members and researchers among Public
Sector Universities/Degree Awarding institutions, the Higher Education
Commission (HEC) has launched an in-country "Short-term Teacher Exchange
Programme (STEP)" whereby faculty members may visit other institutions for a
period of 1 to 4 weeks to give lecture courses or on research assignments.
According to a press statement, a sizable number of highly qualified
teachers and scientists are available in universities; however, they cannot
easily afford to stay away from their own departments for a long period because
of their responsibilities. These faculty members may be invited for short-time
duration to assist with curriculum development, laboratory work or for delivery
of lecture courses on particular topics. They may also help in the development
of new departments.
The programme aims to provide opportunities for
improvement of quality of education and to increase interactions between
institutions. It also envisages upgrading the quality of research through
interchange of ideas. The News
