IIU to establish special WTO Cell
Rawalpindi, Nov 24, 2007: International Islamic University (IIU) will establish a special WTO
Cell, having a Centre of Excellence, to help professionals about WTO rules, its
complications and implications, said Dean Faculty of Management Sciences IIU
Professor Amanullah here Friday.
He expressed these views while speaking
at the inaugural ceremony of a three-week training course on "WTO Principals and
Laws".
International management Development Center IMDC of IIU is
arranging the training.
He said the cell would also work, as a research
centre to keep abreast with the day-to-day changes and global developments in
the international trade.
Course Coordinator Professor Muhammad Bashir
Ghuman said that the aim of these courses was to build the capacity of the
stakeholder to compete in international trade under WTO regime.
He said
IIU had trained some 3,000 persons about WTO rules in the last four
years.
Officials from China, Ethiopia, African Muslim and Arab countries
besides officers of Pakistan Agriculture Research Council and MINFAL would
impart training.
IIU & ETM signed a MoU
Islamabad: International Islamic University, (IIU) and Education Trust Mauritius
(ETM) here Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for academic
cooperation and mutual benefits.
According to the MoU, IIU and ETM will
collaborate in areas pertaining to education, training and research while the
cooperation will also be extended in other disciplines, says a statement issued
here Friday.
Acting Chairman, ETM Mazir Khodabux and President IIU, Dr
Anwar Hussain Siddiqui signed the MOU where as Mauritius High Commissioner,
Abdool Raschid Meerun was also present on the occasion.
The ETM and IIU
will collaborate for the purpose of offering certificate; diploma and degree
courses in Islamic Finance while ETM will undertake programme/course through
video conferencing or Distance Learning in Islamic Finance.
IIU also
plans to consider providing admissions and scholarships in the undergraduates
and postgraduate programmes to eligible students under usual criteria and
regulates of the University applicable to overseas students.
The
Mauritius High Commissioner lauded the efforts of the institutions and said that
it will be a milestone towards progress of educational pursuits in
Mauritius.
The President IIU assured that the University would also
extend its cooperation in the disciplines other than Islamic finance. The News
