Kidnap case against 55 IUB students

BAHAWALPUR, Nov 02, 2007: Baghdadul Jadid police on Thursday registered a case against 55 unidentified students of Islamia University Bahawalpur (IUB).

A respective police official said the case had been filed on the complaint of activists of Anjuman Tulba-i-Islam (ATI) and on the orders of the district police officer (DPO).

The case was registered under sections 365 and 379 of the PPC for allegedly abducting some of the ATI members and stealing their cell phones which fell on the ground during a scuffle at the Umar hostel of the Baghdadul Jadid campus on Tuesday night.

The police official told this correspondent by telephone that no arrests had been made so far as the case was being investigated by the SHO who was not available at the police station at that time.

Meanwhile, the ATI leadership claimed that they in their complaint had nominated 15 students of the rival group who allegedly tortured them. Addressing a joint press conference here on Thursday, ATI central leader Chaudhry Saeed Kahloon, Punjab nazim Adnan Joyia and IUB nazim Tahir Bashir Bhatti demanded early arrest of the accused. They also demanded of the vice-chancellor to expel the accused from the university.

The ATI leaders said they would continue their protest till the arrest of the accused. Dawn
