Kidnap case against 55 IUB students
BAHAWALPUR, Nov 02, 2007: Baghdadul Jadid police on Thursday registered a case
against 55 unidentified students of Islamia University Bahawalpur
(IUB).
A respective police official said the case had been filed on the
complaint of activists of Anjuman Tulba-i-Islam (ATI) and on the orders of the
district police officer (DPO).
The case was registered under sections 365
and 379 of the PPC for allegedly abducting some of the ATI members and stealing
their cell phones which fell on the ground during a scuffle at the Umar hostel
of the Baghdadul Jadid campus on Tuesday night.
The police official told
this correspondent by telephone that no arrests had been made so far as the case
was being investigated by the SHO who was not available at the police station at
that time.
Meanwhile, the ATI leadership claimed that they in their
complaint had nominated 15 students of the rival group who allegedly tortured
them. Addressing a joint press conference here on Thursday, ATI central leader
Chaudhry Saeed Kahloon, Punjab nazim Adnan Joyia and IUB nazim Tahir Bashir
Bhatti demanded early arrest of the accused. They also demanded of the
vice-chancellor to expel the accused from the university.
The ATI leaders
said they would continue their protest till the arrest of the accused. Dawn
