Chaos prevails in KU admission process
Karachi, Nov 24, 2007: Dr Saleem Shahzad, director of admissions, University of Karachi
(KU) has said that the prospective students seeking admission in Bachelor's
programme can submit their admission forms till November 24 (today). Meanwhile,
those students who were unable to get the admission forms by November 22 have
been advised to obtain the same from Monday, November 26, onwards from the
Silver Jubilee gate of the university.
The students were turned back from
the assigned banks in the city on Thursday as officials told them that they had
run out of forms. The situation created confusion and frustration among hundreds
of students, who lambasted the university and its admission directorate for its
mismanagement. On inquiring about the chaos in the admission process, Shahzad
said on Thursday and Friday that most of the designated banks had the
admission forms but there are possibilities that some might not have it. He
further said that the university will take back the remaining forms from the
banks to distribute them from the United Bank Limited (UBL) and National Bank of
Pakistan (NBP) branches at the Silver Jubilee gate.
In the meantime,
students were faced with an unprecedented crowd on Thursday, November 22, at the
Silver Jubilee gate as they came here to get the forms after being turned back
by the banks. Hina Ahmed, resident of Steel Town said, "I visited a bank at
Dawood Chowrangi but I was told that the forms had finished. I came here (at the
Silver Jubilee gate, KU) hoping to get the forms but no such luck. It is simply
pathetic," she lamented. Another student, Sohail Danish, said that he went to a
designated bank opposite Baitul Mukarram Masjid on University Road but could not
get the form.
