KU exams' announcements
Karachi, Nov 20: University of Karachi (KU) has informed the students appearing in
the B.A. External Annual Examinations 2007, which will start from November 26
that their admit cards and examination schedule have been dispatched to
them. Those candidates who did not receive their admit cards by November
21 were directed to contact at the external unit, examination department from
November 22 to November 24 during office hours.
Whereas, on Sunday November 25,
between 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. for the issuance of duplicate admit cards.
For the purpose, the candidates are required to bring their original
registration cards, receipt of the examination fee in original, national
identity cards (NIC) and two passport size photographs.
Meanwhile, the
university also announced that application forms for the admission against the
reserved seats in the Bachelors of Studies (B.S) and Pharm-D were available from
the office of the Deputy Registrar (Academic) on the payment of Rs300 during
9.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m.
Furthermore, the university informed that all
such external candidates of B.A., B.Com/BOL & B.Sc (Improvement of
Division), who were appearing in the annual examination to be held for the year
2007 to 2008, and had not yet, submitted their examination forms, that they
could submit their examination forms from November 20 to November 21.
Examination forms would be available at the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) and
United Bank Limited (UBL) counters.
Two religious activists nabbed at KU
Karachi: The security staff at the Karachi University (KU) held two
activists belonging to a religious outfit that were distributing pamphlets of
hatred and showing "Gohar Shahi" as Imam Mehdi.
Sources said that two
activists belonging to a religious outfit came to the KU Campus at Silver
Jubilee Gate and started distributing pamphlets about "Gohar Shahi" to the
students at the KU gate.
Sources maintained that some of the students
informed the Rangers at the KU for security that two persons were distributing
hatred material to the students. The security personnel went over to the Silver
Jubilee Gate and caught two persons with huge quantity of pamphlets and took
them to the Security Office.
Sources added that the suspects were
identified as Mohammed Sajid and Mohammed Arif and the pamphlets provoking
against religious feelings in which Gohar Shahi was mentioned as "Imam Mehdi".
Later the suspects were handed over to Mobina Town police station for further
legal action.
Two militants held, CDs recovered: The sensitive agency
staff raided some shops situated in the Sohrab Goth police limits and held two
suspects belonging to Wana (Waziristan) with recovery of a huge quantity of CDs
of violent incidents in Waziristan and Swat.
Sources said that an
Investigating agency was tipped off that some suspects belonging to Wana were
operating some shops at Al-Asif Square and selling CDs comprising of hate
material and introduction of Jihad which created hatred against various sectors.
The sensitive agency personnel raided Janan and Habib Centre and held
two suspects identified as Mohammed Naeem and Habibullah who belonged to
Afghanistan and recovered a huge quantity of CDs from them. Interrogation is

"AA I would like to point out that some Pakistani universities are doing religious profiling by including slots for religion of candidates on application forms and/or or certain declarations that Muslim candidates need to fill in on application forms thus identifying non-Muslim candidates. Examples are Punjab University http://www.pu.edu.pk/examinations/forms/downloads/BA_Form_Regular_Final_combine.pdf & http://www.pu.edu.pk/examinations/forms/downloads/MA_Form_regular_A4_combine.pdf and University of Engineering and Technology Lahore http://tinyurl.com/yrfhy6. There dose not seem to be any reason for this except to identify and deny non-Muslims admission to the institution. It seems citizenship of the country and educational qualifications alone are not enough for admission, candidates also need to be of a certain religion for improved chances of admission.
