Mama Parsi & DHA School won FPS tournament
KARACHI, Nov 03, 2007: Foundation Public School
held its 10th annual interschool table tennis tournament on Friday; Mama Parsi
won the girls tournament and DHA School won the boys tournament both by
defeating City School students.
Among the girls, Al-Mitra Malwala from
Mama Parsi won the table tennis final (3-0) against Fatima Masood from City
School, PAF Chapter. Bilal Khan from DHA School won the boys table tennis final
(3-2) against Ahmed Aslam of City School. "We have a total of ten schools
participating this year and all the participants performed very well," said the
school's sports coordinator, Murad.
Representatives from Mama Parsi, St
Michael's School for boys and girls, CAS, Jaffar Public School, DHA School for
boys and girls, Beaconhouse Public School and City School (PAF chapter, Tipu
Sultan road branch and Gulshan-e-Iqbal branch) participated, along with
representatives from the host school.
"The students have trained very
hard and each one of them wants to win for their own school," said Mrs Khalida,
representing City School.
The event, held at the school's Defence
O-Levels branch, was attended by students from all the participating schools and
a large number of parents as well.
The names of the participants
included: Khushnam and Al-Mitra (Mama Parsi), Zohra, Safi Abdullah, Syed Imran
and Ali Asghar (St Michael's), Anam Atia, Safa Farooq, Ahsan Salim and Ghulam
Mustafa (Jaffar Public School), Urooj Nasir, Hafsa Paracha, Salman and Waseem
Sheikhani (Beacon House Public School), Rozina, Eman Afridi, Ismail Mobeen and
Bilal Khan (DHA Public School), Fatima Masood, Fatima Hina, Osman Masood and
Haider Ali (City School PAF chapter), Ahmed Ali (City School Tipu Sultan Road),
Syed Ilyas and Ali Ahmed (City School Gulshan-e-Iqbal) and Iqra Rahman, Shahrukh
and Taha Ahmed (Foundation Public School).
The supporters in the audience
showed a lot of enthusiasm and encouragement for their fellow students
participating in the tournaments.
"Urooj Nasir is our interschool table
tennis champion and, with her representing Beaconhouse, we have a very good
chance of winning," said Asma Inayat. Urooj also expressed her desire to play
internationally some day. "I would like nothing else than to make a career out
of something I love and, the good thing about it is that my parents are very
supportive of my interest in sports."
Participants also spoke about
their experiences in tournaments with schools from other cities in Pakistan. "In
the recent interschool tournament held in Islamabad, Karachi City School won and
it was a very good feeling to know that ... we outdid ourselves. Hopefully, we
have a chance of winning today as well," said Saad Ilyas of City School. Daily Times
