NUML students protest against emergency
ISLAMABAD, Nov 25, 2007:The students of National University of Modern Languages (NUML) stageda peaceful protest rally inside the campus here on Saturday against the imposition of emergency and the suspension of 1973 constitution.
Highly charged students marched across the university and shouted anti emergency and anti government slogans. Representing all departments of the university including English, International Relations, Business Administration and Mass Communication the students demanded reinstatement of sacked judges and the revival of the 1973 constitution.
They were also holding placards on which they had written different demands like "Go Musharraf Go" and enchanting the same one while visiting different blocks of the university. Few students started this protest but later on they were joined by a number of students. Quite a number of faculty members also participated in the protest rally.
However the administration of the university was critical of this stance of the students and stopped the students from taking out any rally inside the campus against the declaration of emergency. The Nation
LUMS faculty seeks withdrawal of cases
LAHORE: The faculty of the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) has condemned the filing of sedition charges against 14 faculty members of the Punjab University and signed a petition urging the government to drop the charges immediately.
According to a press statement issued from LUMS Students Movement on Saturday, the faculty from various departments in LUMS, including the new Science and Engineering faculty, met and discussed the recent developments in Pakistan before signing the petition. The petition voices opposition of the instructors to the harassment and intimidation of the PU faculty by the government, and demands that the charges be dropped immediately. The News
