PU IJT nazim not a PU student, say students
LAHORE, Nov 30, 2007: Punjab University (PU) Islami
Jamiat Talaba (IJT) nazim Attiqur Rehman (newly appointed) is not enrolled with
any PU department, said PU Students Action Committee (SAC).
PU IJT nazim
said he was a student of Institute of Social and Cultural Studies (ISCS). ISCS
director Dr Muhammad Hafeez said Rehman was not enrolled with his department. PU
IJT media secretary Imran Kiyani said Rehman was a PU student. He, however,
refused to give information about Rehman's department. SAC spokesman Kamran
Waheed said Rehman had replaced former PU IJT nazim Muhammad Ayub, after Imran
Khan's manhandling on the campus. He said Rehman was expelled from the
International Islamic University (IIU), Islamabad on disciplinary charges. He
said Rehman was involved in an attack on IIU Dr Mehmood Ahmed Ghazi. He said
Haroonur Rasheed, a renowned columnist, had mentioned the incident in one of his
columns. He said IJT activists had been involved in extortion from PU canteens,
barbershops and fruit shops.
A PU student said admissions had been
completed on the campus. Some PU teachers, however, were trying to admit Rehman
to PU.
On condition of anonymity a PU teacher said Rehman was not a PU
student, but he (Rehman) was residing in PU hostels. Rehman said he was a
student of ISCS. He said he had never been a student of IIU. PU registrar Dr
Naeem Ahmed Khan said Rehman was not a PU student. Daily Times
